Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s surprise visit to the City of Nawabs would make fodder for a foodie’s travelogue. The “Jab We Met” director, who was here with his family – father Mansoor, mother Razia, brothers Sajid and Arif Ali – spent the afternoon digging into the famous Tundey ke kebabs in Aminabad. And while everyone was speculating about whether the director was here to scout for locations, he took out time in the evening to inaugurate a family friend’s restaurant in the city.
Imtiaz, along with his family, was scheduled to arrive at Abu Baqr’s eatery at 7.30pm. All the guests present were eagerly waiting for the filmmaker. And in true celeb style, Imtiaz took awfully long to arrive at the venue, even as Baqr spent the better part of the evening making excuses on Ali’s behalf. The guests finally caught a glimpse of him at 10.30pm. While the guests gathered round to have a look at Imtiaz, to greet him with bouquets of flowers and get themselves clicked with him, the “Rockstar” director quickly grabbed a seat. As he watched the Rajasthani folk dance performance for which artistes had been especially called from Rajasthan, Imtiaz looked like he was trying too hard to ignore the attention being lavished on him. The queue of people wanting to get autographs signed by him seemed indefatigable, and by the end of it, Imtiaz looked a tad annoyed by all the hype surrounding his visit.
